That's why I said he was presumed deceased. The Richard Murphy/Murphrey
that was born in 1762 in Duplin Co., NC became the guardian of three
orphans, Willis, Willie and Mary Jane Murphrey in Amite Co., MS. This took
place in 1810.

In 1808 Sampson Co., NC, three orphans, children of a Richard Murphrey,
Willis, Willie and Mary Jane Murphrey were put under the guardianship of
Willis Magee. Willis Magee was married to Asha Scott. We believe her
sister Jerusha was their mother and was married to Richard Murphrey. She
was listed as Jerusha Murphrey in her brother's will. The Magee's migrated
to Amite Co., MS in 1810.

We believe our Richard to be the son of Michael Murphy/Murphrey of
Duplin/Sampson Co., NC. There also was a William and a Miles. There were
numerous land transactions between them.

We're not sure if the Richard (born 1762) and the Richard of Sampson Co..
NC may be one in the same. Interestingly enough the name Richard never
carried down through any of his children's family. I have a sneaky
suspicion he deserted his family and was presumed dead.

My husband descends from Willis Murphrey and his wife Priscilla
Dixon. They married in 1816 in Amite Co., MS. They settled in Sabine Co.,
(then DeZavalla Colony) TX.

By the way, there is very strong evidence that the Murphrey's of
Duplin/Sampson Co., NC are out of the Isle of Wight Murphreys.
