Hello,
I read in the MURPHY Digest, Vol 2, Issues 14 and 15 about a search for
a William Murphy by Sallie, and a reply by Charlie Murphy.
I hope that I have a connection and some more info to add. I have been
tracing my Murphy roots for several years and it led from North Carolina
through Kentucky to Northwest Missouri and Nebraska. My mother was Dorritt
(nmn) Murphy, born in Lebanon, Red Willow County, Nebraska. Her father was
Robert Patent Murphy who died in McCook, Nebraska. He was the son of John
Murphy and Agnes Cochrane (pronounced Co'ran) and was of Scottish ancestry. She
was six feet tall and weighed 90 pounds. They were married in November 1863
or 1867. Agnes Cochran's sister was named Mary Cochrane Chambers. Robert
Patent Murphy's father was John Murphy, one of 5 brothers who fought for the
Union during the Civil War. John may have been the 4th brother. A 5th
brother, the youngest, was named William Murphy. After Agnes Cochran's death
in childbirth, John Murphy remarried (I think his 2nd wife's name was Mary
M.?) They had 4-5 daughters. The father of the 5 Murphy brothers was named
William or James and he was married to Fanny (Francis) Hammock or Hammack.

If any of this sound like what you are looking for, I have a letter from
one of the 4 daughters of John Murphy and his wife Mary written to my aunt
Nellie Murphy in early 1900's.
