FYI, from Babette Bloch of Golden Gate Computer Society:

HENRY NORR, S.F. CHRONICLE COLUMNIST, TO SPEAK AT GOLDEN GATE COMPUTER
SOCIETY GENERAL MEETING APRIL 23, ON “THE PC: A PROGRESS REPORT”
Don’t miss this exciting personal appearance of one of the Bay Area’s
leading computer writers!

Your members are invited to join the Golden Gate Computer Society at its
April 23rd General Meeting, 7:00 p.m., at the San Rafael Community Center,
618 B Street, San Rafael CA. (Directions below) Admission is free.

Speaking on “the state of the PC world”, computer columnist Henry Norr will
touch on such topics as:
! What Intel and AMD (and maybe Transmeta) have in the pipeline for the next
year or two, and how the chips will and won't change computing;
! The strengths and weaknesses of Windows XP and some issues it raises
! Upcoming big changes in peripheral interfaces - USB 2.0, Bluetooth, and
Serial ATA
! The incredible and continuing deterioration of vendor tech support.

After shattering our complacency on issues like that, a question and answer
session with the audience will allow us to probe more deeply into comments
of special interest.

Norr, a Berkeley resident, has been writing about computers since 1985.
Something of a Rennaissance Man, he's also worked as a printer,
police-training instructor, college sociology instructor, machinist (making
parts for helicopter engines, marine turbines, etc.), and was a graduate
student of Soviet and Polish politics. No wonder his highly readable
columns cover such a wide variety of computer-related issues.

His past columns are available at www.sfgate.com (the SF Chronicle web
site).
