Hello Marion,

I have reference to a schooner ANN in the year 1841 - a 13 year span
from your date of interest in 1828. However, one might speculate that
the mishap involving Allen Lincoln may have had no effect upon the
structural integrity of the vessel ANN.

The ship CHARLES which was outbound from New Orleans on June 1st, 1841,
began taking on water on the 5th while in the Atlantic. The CHARLES was
abandoned and crew & passengers took to their boats.

Two vessels were involved in the successful rescue of all souls on
board; they were the French ship LOUIS XIV, and the schooner ANN. All
were ultimately transfered from the LOUIS onto the ANN, that was
originally bound for Portsmouth, and everyone safely deliverd to
Charleston, South Carolina.

As far as the place Holmes Hole is concerned, it was located on the
island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts having received its name in
1646. It was renamed "Vineyard Haven" in 1871, and was (and is) a
favorite port of shelter and lay-over during storms.

It is quite possible that Allen Lincoln and the ANN were seeking
safe-harbor during a storm there - the great nor'east storm of Nov. 1898
is an example of vessels struggling to reach Vineyard Haven, and even
for those that made it, some lives and many vessels were lost.
