info on HMS LYSANDER.
not sure which one you require,
WW1 period.
HMS LYSANDER (ex-Ulysses), L class destroyer (22 ships)
Builder : Swan Hunter. Laid down 1910., Launched August 1913.
Displacement : 976 tons, 13,000 tons full load.
Dimensions : length 269ft. (o.a.)., beam 27ft. 6in. ; draught 19ft. 6in.
Machinery : 2 shaft Parsons turbines 4 Yarrow boilers. Horse Power 24,500 =
29 knots.
Fuel : Oil 268 tons.
Armament : 3 x 4in. ( 3x1).; 1 x 2pdr. pom pom. ; 1 macine gun.
Torpedoe tubes : 4 x 21in. (2x2).
Three funnels (some of class built with two).
Complement : 73
sold 1922.
WW2 period
HMS LYSANDER, "ALGERINE" class Minesweeper (110 built, 98 for RN, 12 for
RCN)
Pendant No. J 379. (after War letter changed to M).
Builder : Port Arthur Shipbuilding, Canada. Laid down June 1943., launched
November 1943., completed November 1944.
Displacement : 950 - 1030 tons standard, 1235 - 1325 tons deep load.
Dimensons : length 225ft. (o.a)., beam 35ft. 6in.., draught 10ft. 6in to
11ft. 6in maximum.
Machinery : 2 shaft vertical triple expansion., 2 Admiralty 3 - drum
boilers, 2,400 iph = 16.5 knots.
Oil fuel : 230 tons., 5,000nm @ 10knots.
Armament : 1 x 4in., 4 x 40mm Bofors (4x1).
RDF : SW.271 on bridge., AW.291 at head of tripod mast.
complement : 85 : 138 war.
History Ex - Royal Canadian Navy HESPELER (name transfered to British built
corvettes, exchanged for the 15 Canadian built Algerines).
Also used for escort work.
1950 name changed to HMS CORNFLOWER and used as Honk Kong RNVR drill ship,
changed back to LYSANDER 1951.
sold 1957, arrived Blyth November 1957 for scrapping.
