The Liverpool Company was (still is I think) T. and J. Harrison (Thomas
and Jonathan?), not to be confused with Harrisons of the Clyde.
I believe the ships were registered under the name of Charante Steamship
Co. They were all named after occupations. eg. Astronomer, Author,
Huntsman etc.
They ran to the West Indies, East Africa and maybe Burma
I think the Huntsman was the first British ship sunk during WW11 - by
the Graf Spee..
Their old nickname was "one of fat, one of lean" because their funnels
had red - white - red - white stripes on them! Latterly they were called
"Tom and Jerry"!!
Cheers
