I have just received information on an ancestor of mine, Capt Alfred Holmes
Newcomb [1859-1934 ], he was a Canadian.
The family tale is that his ship SYNYHIA was shipwrecked somewhere near
Port William in Scotland or in the Isle of Man, he fell in love with a
local girl Jane Broadfoot Duff and were married IOM 1886, presumably not
long after the shipwreck.

He went on to Captain the HMCS MALISPINA, both ships possibly running
between Vancouver & UK.

Can anybody help with information regarding these two ships or other
commands of Capt Newcomb?
