Hi Jan. Hope the rain has stopped in Vancouver. Here are the details
listed in
the Lloyd's Register for the three vessels:
CONSTANTINE
Master: Captain E. Williams
Rigging: Bark; sheathed in felt and yellow metal in 1863
Tonnage: 502 tons
Dimensions: 120.3 feet long, 26.7 foot beam and holds 20.2 feet deep.
Construction: 1847 in "Brkwr" (sorry, cannot figure this one out)
Owners: Holmen & Sons
Home Port: Exeter
Voyage: sailed from Topsham, bound for Bermuda
(earlier that year, she has sailed from Shields to Callao under Captain F.
Howell)
OBERON (two possibilities)
1) Master: Captain J. Keay
Rigging: Ship; sheathed in yellow metal in 1870; copper fastened; iron
frame planked.
Tonnage: 1,194 tons
Dimensions: 241 feet long, 36.2 foot beam and holds 21 feet deep
Construction: 1869 by Inglis in Glasgow.
Owners: Shaw & Co.
Home Port: London
Voyage: sailed from London, bound for China
2) Master: Captain H. Towill
Rigging: Ship; cemented in 1864; 2 bulkheads
Tonnage: 1,181 tons
Dimensions: 211.1 feet long, 35.6 foot beam and holds 22.6 feet deep.
Construction: 1864 by Reid in Port Glagow
Owners: Bowring & Co.
Home Port: Liverpool
Voyage: sailed from Liverpool, bound for India.
MAITLAND
Master: Captain T. Hunter
Rigging: Ship; sheathed in felt and yellow metal in 1871; copper fastened;
iron frame planked
Tonnage: 799 tons
Dimensions: 183 feet long, 35 foot beam and holds 19.6 feet deep.
Construction: 1865 by Pile in Sunderland
Owners: Kelso
Home Port: North Shields
Voyage: sailed from London, bound for China
