The General Register Office (GRO) Marine Death Registers are maintained by
the Office For National Statistics (ONS) at their office in Southport. The
indexes to the registers are now held in the Public Record Office's Family
Record Centre in Islington, central London... They cover deaths (also births
and marriages) at sea on ships registered in Great Britain and Ireland from
1 July 1837 and others to or from the UK from 1875. The indexes have been
filmed and are available in LDS libraries. For more detailed information see

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons.htm
