Help. I have been searching for information on the ship Dedemona for years,
I'm hoping that if it's at all possible to find anything, then this list is
by far, my best chance. I really would appreciate any and all help.
Capt John Scull Chattin was the ship's Captain. He was born 1807 and died
1863. It may have been a Schooner but highly doubtful it was a Whaler.
Capt Chattin lived in Beesly's and Somer's Point, NJ. I know the ship
sailed on at least one voyage from NY to New Orleans carrying cargo.
I found this old message posted but have been unable to contact the source
to see if she had any success. I don't understand what she means by "PIE"
site.
"hope to find further information on the DESDEMONA that left Le Havre
on January 11, 1855 and arrived the port of New Orleans on April 2, 1855.
Thirteen members of my immigrant ancestors were aboard this ship.
In searching further on different ships sites, I located a DESDEMONA in
service between 1824 and 1849 going to the port of New York. I found
this on the PIE site, under Early Ships. Could this DESDEMONA be the
same one I am searching for? Where would I find out more information on
this ship? Any clues would be appreciated."
Thank you for your help. I can be reached at John Chattin
