Hi Jayne
>>who was a Welsh mariner. The only date I could associate with him is
the
birth of his son, Lewis Rees Davies, on 25 March 1853. Since then I have
learned that he was lost at sea in 1859.
Debbie Beavis has just posted a message saying that Lloyd's List gives
details of "...marine casualties...". Can you help me with this?>>
I think your best bet is to read the guide to mariners lost at sea. That
explains how to go about tracing a seamen who died at sea.
Michael Palmer's guide to Lloyd's List, which I just posted, refers to
marine casualties... to Michael, to me, and to those others of us who
work with these records, 'marine casualties' means only one thing....
accidents which happened to ships. I realise now that it is not clear,
and maybe we need to make that point more precisely... marine casualties
are accidents to ships, not people!
Only incidentally will you discover anything in Lloyd's List relating to
death or accident to a named _person_. Try the guide to deaths at sea.
I think you will find it helpful.
All the best
Debbie Beavis
