Greetings,
I have a request from a friend to clarify his father's service entries.
Name: Robert Stewart Warnock (called Paddy or Sam)
Extracts from National Union of Seamen book issued from Tower Hill, London--2nd book from April 1942 and seaman's I.D. discharge book.
1. Fort Fosk (?) 28/9/42 to 10/12/42
2. No African Pool 4/2/43 to 12/8/43
(would this be Algiers North Africa? A hospital discharge slip saying fit for duty, report to Royal Navy base Algiers-dated 20/7/43 if not, how would he get there?)
3. Fort Lennox 23/9/43 to 27/11/43
4. El-De France (?) 27/1/44 to 22/3/44 and again 16/4/44 to 27/8/44
5. Almangora 136353 18/9/44 to 12/1/45
Some papers show he served on H.M.S. Tjisdane (?) in May 1942, as his 'Order of the deep card' dated May 1st '42. Family legend says he was reputed on a ship sunk off North Africa. Further family thinking was that he served on the Aquatania at some time.
May I request any information possible, or explanations/elaborations of above. It would seem that the handwriting makes some entries unclear. I am constantly amazed at the knowledge and expertise displayed by the members, many thanks.
Peter
