Peter,

The PERICLES of 1878 was a 1,598 gross ton, iron hull, three masted, ship
rigged vessel, length 259.5ft x beam 39.3ft (79,10m x 12,00m).
Built by W.Hood & Co, Aberdeen, she was launched in July 1877 as a wool
clipper for the Aberdeen Line. She was a fast ship and her maiden voyage to
Melbourne took 71 days. By 1886 she was no longer used as a regular wool
clipper, but sailed home via India and the Pacific. In 1904 she was sold to
Leif Gundersen, Norway and rigged as a barque. By 1911 she was owned by
Pettersen & Ullenaess, Porsgrund, Norway and in 1916 was sold to
Christiansands Shipping Co, Christiansand and renamed SJURSO. She was
scrapped at Kiel in Sep.1923. [Merchant Fleets by Duncan Haws, vol.17,
Aberdeen and Aberdeen & Commonwealth Lines]

Hope this helps
Ted
