I have a book by Robert Wood, West Hartlepool which is near Durham. It lists ships built there, and owners with some small descriptions. It is a history of the "new" City built around 1840 to ship coal and wool. there are some Captains scattered around the index and I would be happy to give a quick look for you if you give me the names -- If you are near Hartlepool I understand that there is a lovely new shipping museum on the renovated Historic Quay there --

He was a fisherman and lived at 17 Victoria Street, Caister near Yarmouth, very near the lifeboat station which is No.19. He is not listed in the 1881 or 1891 census, but his wife is listed as wife of fisherman. I have his birthdate but I am interested in finding out more about his nautical activities.

My great grandfather was Master Mariner William George Burnup. After he retired from sea he became a lighthouse keeper in North Shields, England. Can anyone direct me where to get a list of mariners for this time period?

I have relatives who state their occupation as Mariners or Master Mariners in the 1800's Can anyone advise me where I might obtain more info on the above. The area my family lived was Sunderland, Durham, England.
