In terms of maritime heritage importance, the CITY OF ADELAIDE is up there
with the CUTTY SARK, HMS VICTORY and USS CONSTITUTION. Her planned and
deliberate destruction is Grade A vandalism not the preservation of a Grade
A listed historic structure.

Who were the consultants who recommended her destruction - accountants? -
certainly not people with any sense of history, culture or heritage. And
whilst the National Lottery wastes its funds on the millennium farce of a
Dome at Greenwich the countrys maritime heritage steadily rots for lack of
financial support.

The issue also makes a complete mockery of the notion of a National List of
Historic Vessels to be preserved at all costs.

You could comment upon their total lack of publicity over this issue. Had
there been any publicity the ship might have been saved by an interested
benefactor.

Summary: Carrick heading for the rocks with no 4.5m lifeline in sight.
Despite an appeal to raise funds to save her from crumbling, trustees at the
Scottish Maritime Museum at Irvine, which owns the ship, yesterday applied
for listed building consent to demolish the vessel, saying no-one has
answered their appeal for 4.5m. The Carrick has been for sale since the
beginning of February but no buyer has...
