Ed Roach asked about HMS Swindon and HMS Barnstaple.
Both of these were Aberdare class minesweepers. Swindon was ex HMS Bantry.
Other than having a penchant for changing their names, very little seems to
have accrued to these mass production sweepers based on the Hunt class.
Because of the Armistice only 32 of these boats went into commission. (there
were circa 131 of them originally) and the remainder were disposed of
wholesale, many as commercial conversion to coasters.
Barnstaple and Swindon were sold between April and December 1921.
