George GALT (mariner) and Hannah PINNING were married in the Parish Church of Sunderland 4 June 1850. Their residence at the time of their marriage was Covent Garden Street. Hannah and George lived on the seas...between the date of their marriage and December 1851 they were in three shipwrecks. In the third one, in December 1851 Hannah (age 19yr) and her six month old son (my Ggrandfather) were washed ashore, but George GALT was lost to the sea.
1) How would I go about finding the name of the ship and details of the wreck?
2)Was it common practice to allow families to live aboard ship with the sailors/mariners?
Thanks in advance
