Others have already identified that there were two PAN-MASSACHUSETTSes. The
second ine was not lost in her 1944 fire.
Built at Daniel K Ludwig's shipyard Welding Ship Yard Inc (Yard No 12) at
Norfolk VA in 1943, she was a tanker of 11015grt 18900tdw 515'11" x 70'.
I don't know about the circumstances of her 1944 fire (though three of the
crew lost their lives) but can add that she was rebuilt in 1954, following
the 1953 collision with tanker PHOENIX. She had four subsequent names
before being scrapped in Hong Kong in 1966.
