Greetings,

I have read and participated in the recent discussions on ship LENGTHENING, it is fascinating and seemingly not a recent happening.

I have just read about a ship being WIDENED. May I ask the many friends and experts on Mariners, how can this can happen? I saw a 'laker' vessel that had a complete stern section c/w engine room etc. grafted on, that had a beam about two feet wider. Surely this would seriously affect the handling qualities?
