Dear List,
I want to thank everyone for thier responses. At first I joined the list to find my greatgrandfathers first name and the 7 children born after the1881 census . I had my Greatgrandmothers first name Ada but not her maiden name. I sent for my grandfather William Briggs , death certificate, it came back today, a disappointment, it has fathers first name unknown and mothers name unknown. I will have wait for the 1891 census. Then I did my E-Mail and saw your replies, it made my day. The world of the mariner is both immense and interesting. When I saw the documentary, thought he looks a lot like uncle George Briggs who spent 5 years in WW11., not much to base a querry on I know. Looked up the site on the Hood, a terrible tragedy, and will follow up and try and find the website for the HMS. Hood Ass. I found a William Briggs on one website last night, right age,so .maybe his name was William, not George. Dear Paul in Port!
land (laughing) I didn't know there were millions of Briggs, but my other family names are Jones, Williams on both sides,Porter, Tilling and so on, like good luck! They were also all called John, William , George, James, Mary, Jane,Elizabeth, Alice & Francess. They say its the journey not the destination, it must be true because I am having a lot of fun. But please give me one small victory.
Thankyou again, Jane from BC.Can.
