Subject: [Mar] First time query
Date: Thu, 01 Aug 2002 23:05:46 -0400

Hello List:
Though I belong to many such lists, this is the first query I am posting to
this list. I have seen this list referred to by many on other lists, so
hope someone can help.
Looking for two people .......
Richard TOOZE who, on the 1881 census for Devon is a pensioner from Royal
Marines.
How do I go about finding out about his career? He was not home at the
time of the 1851 census so we assume he was at sea.
Also, Marmaduke HART, captain of the Exeter (or Exon) in the mid to late
1700's. This was a merchant vessel, primarily plying the waters of the
English Chanel, but making a once a year (presumably) voyage to
Newfoundland with goods. Can anyone tell me where records of merchant
vessels from this time period would be held. I have many entries from the
Exeter Flying Post of that time from information in Lloyd's List, but that
is all I have. Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
