I also thankyou for the builders name - helps the database .
The history of the vessels as I have now found it in the "Dumfries Port
Books " is as follows :
CHAMPION .
Barque.
Built Whitehaven 1840
Burthen: 241 tons. Length : 89 3/10ft, Breadth : 20ft. Hold : 15 6/10 ft.
Description. One and a break deck, three masts. Standing bowsprit.
Square stern, carvel built . No Galleries, man figurehead.
framework and planking of wood - sailing vessel.
1840. J.Steel & Co. , Whitehaven. Reg @ W/haven 14/3/1840
1850. William Turner and six others, Dumfries. Reg @ Dumfries 4/9/1850.
1857. A. Buick , Arbroath. Reg @ Arbroath 19/10/1857.
1860. W.Moon, Dundee. Reg @ Dundee.?
At this stage I have no fruther info until I check the Dundeed Port Books.
