The book "Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Koopvaardy in de Tweede
Wereldoorlog by KWL Bezemer, gives:
After the Japanese forces landed on Bali on 10 and 20 Feb.. 1942, the Dutch
Government, decided to make all ships in Surabaya ready for sea, only two
vessels the TJINEGARA and TJITJALENKA sailed in time and escaped, all the
other vessels in Surabaya including the tanker TALANG AKAR (2.046 ton) of
the Nederlandsche Koloniale Tankvaart Mij. did not get away in time and were
destroyed or scuttled before Japan occupied Dutch East Indie.
In all 26 ships were destroyed or scuttled after 2 March 1942. The book did
not give the fate of the ship, I know some of this ships were refloated
later and used by the Japanese.
regards, Auke Palmhof.
