Gilbert
Many, many thanks for this information and yes...it does help. The time
frame is just right, but the owners are not the WELSFORD men I am
researching - brothers Samuel and John Cobley and their cousin Frederick
William.

My knowledge of ships / shipping is very basic, so can I some rather
naive questions?

Could a ship be owned by one set of people and yet the cargo belong to
another person(s)?
What sort of things would an agent do?

Only I have, a couple of days ago, received some King's Bench case
paperwork for both these ships - the time frame is 1810/1811 - and the
papers discuss ownership, bill of costs and agents.

Regards - Audrey Du'Mont
