Good morning Jim & Christine,
The destroyer H.M.S. HEYTHROP . L85, Lt Commander R.S.Stafford, was a unit
of the 5th Destroyer Flotilla which left Alexandria on March 19th 1942 to
carry out an anti submarine sweep between that port and Tobruk as an
essential supplies convoy was to sail for Malta on 20th March.
Whilst engaged in this sweep H.M.S. HALTHROP was torpedoed and sunk ,at10.54
a.m. , 20th March 1942 by U 652 off Sollum . Sixteen ratings were killed.

Trust this is of help.
Regards.
John.
