Good evening Alex,

BRILLIANT. Off No 77437
Iron Ship.
Built July 1877 by W. Duthie & Sons, Aberdeen.
1666 GRT.
254.8ft L, 39.7ft B, 24.2ft D.
Two decks , one bulkhead.
Owner: J.Duthie & Sons, York Place , Aberdeen.
Port of Reg : Aberdeen

Local fact or foklore has it she was constructed by apprentices !
Employed by Duthie almost exclusively on the Australian/ UK wool trade
She was known in Australia as "Duthie's Yacht" due to the fact she had a
brass rail right round her hull and this was always kept brightly polished.
This was done by the crew and not by apprentices who were regarded by
Duthies to be entitled to some sort of return given the money their parents
were paying to have them trained !

1904. NOSTRA SIGNORA DEL CARMINE. Maria Celle, ved Gazzolo. Port of Reg
Genoa.
1905. Reduced to a barque.
1916. 25th August. Caught by a German submarine near Cape Creux and sunk
after the crew had been allowed to abandon ship.

Above from Lloyds Register, various Scottish newspapers of the time and
shipyard archive.

Regards.
John
