Jeff,

The STANBROOK was torpedoed and sunk on 19th Nov.1939 by the U.57 (Korth)
WNW of the North Hinder Lightship while sailing independently on voyage
Antwerp to Blyth in ballast. The Master, Capt. Alexander Dickson and crew of
19 were all lost.
She was a 1,363 gross ton ship, 230.1ft x 34.0ft, single screw, speed 12
knots, Off. No. 124287.
Built 1909 by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co, (Yard No.172) as the LANCER for
Fisher Renwick Manchester - London Steamers Ltd, Manchester.1937 sold to
Stanhope SS Co (J. A. Billmeir), London renamed STANBROOK. 1937 transferred
to Greek registry officially under ownership of G. M. Mavroleon, Piraeus and
renamed POLYFLOISVIOS but reverted to Stanhope SS Co. and STANBROOK the same
year.

The book "Jack Billmeir, Merchant Shipowner" by P. M. Heaton, ISBN
0-950771-49-X contains a good photo of the ship.
