Not much to go on but can anyone identify this 'training' ship which caught
fire and sank?

A boy was in the Forest Gate District workhhouse school at the time of the
1881 census.
He was then sent to a training ship; this workhouse would normally have sent
their boys to the Exmouth, but in this case I have eliminated that.

At the time of the 1891 census he was living with an Aunt and Uncle in
Leicester and working in a factory. BUT, to quote from my enquirer:-

<He was 19 when he landed in Nova Scotia(in 1892.)..The ship he was on was a
training ship...he said he was one of the oldest on it....it caught fire and
sank....the captain and his crew took the life boats and let the sailors who
were young and could not swim make it on there own or not...my grandfather
was able to swim and with a scotsman and an irishman made it to shore....the
townspeople hid them until the winter was over and england was able to send a
ship to pick up.the captain and his officers. My grandfather stayed hidden
and did not go back with them. He changed his name and stayed, married a girl
from there and came to U.S. of America....>
