Hi Group,
I have a friend who served on the HMS Wellington 1940/1943.
His name is Howard Bryan Carter, born in Leicester, now living on Vancouver Island.
Last weekend I visited him, he is now 85, and got talking to him about his war service, He mentioned he was at sea 6 days and rescued survivors off the Highland Patriot sunk off Ireland. I brought the ship up on Google and got him a photo.
He wonders where he can get a transcript of his seagoing record, I have researched 2 uncles of mine in the Merchant Navy visiting Kew and St Johns Nfld. but the Royal Navy I am not sure of. He gave me his official number which I can get again as I left it back there and he did finish up as a Warrant Officer.
As he is not into computers I would like to help him, any suggestions?
Thanks,
Phil Storey
Vancouver BC
PS My uncles worked for CT Bowrings 1875/1915 and Blue Funnel Line 1923/1942, then Canadian National 1946/1954 out of Montreal then Bowaters from Newfoundland until 1960. I have accumulated quite a lot of information on ships, photos, routes and day to day employment from the various archives I have visited so if I can help anyone on the list please get in touch.
