Subject: [McCALL] Clarification on Thomas McCall
Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 08:15:31 -0400
Just a correction. I notice that someone submitting to the List shows
Thomas McCall, who married lst Ann Gilmore and 2nd Frances Cahoon, as being
the son of James and Elizabeth (McCall) McCall of Mecklenburg Co., N.C.
This is incorrect. James and Elizabeth had a son, Thomas, but he was a
different Thomas who died in 1837 in Laurens Co., Ga. The Thomas who
married lst Ann Gilmore and 2nd Frances Cahoon, was a son of a different
James McCall who was married (2nd) to Rebecca Kelly. James and Rebecca
were the parents of this Thomas McCall who migrated to Tennessee and
Mississippi. There is no known kinship between James (who married Rebecca
Kelly) and the James McCall (son of James and Janet [Harris] McCall) who
had a wife Elizabeth (her maiden name also McCall; his cousin). All
lived for a time in Mecklenburg Co., N.C., but there was no direct
association between them and they lived some distance apart. Mecklenburg
Co. was a major part of the Scotch Irish migration trail, so one cannot
assume any kinship just because people of the same name settled there.
Thousands of Scotch Irish immigrants passed through Mecklenburg Co., N.C.
