Subject: [McCALL] SC MCCALLs in Horry County - Any connection ???
Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 14:26:01 -0400
I've really hit a dead end researching the McCall side of the family. I've been told by older family members that the McCalls have been in Cherry Grove/Little River/North Myrtle Beach area in Horry County for 200 years. I've traced the family back to Thomas McCall (b. 1790 d. 1860-1880). Wife's name Sarah McCall (b.1807 or 1811 d. after 1880). They appeared in Horry County census records for 1840 along with John F. McCall family (born between 1800 & 1810). Census indicated that John F. McCall had wife 20-30 yrs of age, 1 F (5-10), 1 M (0-5), and 1 F (0-5). This family disappeared before the 1850 census.
Thomas and Sarah McCall had a son, Jackson F. McCall (b. 1837-38 d. ??). Jackson F. McCall served in WBTS for SC Horry 10th Infantry, Company "M". Have received copies of documents from Archives which are in the names of J.F. McCall, Jackson F. McCall, and James F. McCall...all of which appear to be the same person. Personal family history indicates that Jackson was his given name.
Jackson F. McCall (b. 1837-38) married Julia B. ??? (could be Clemmons, Clements, Clemens) (b. 1845). They had three children:
Daniel Joseph b. 1870 Married Elvey Bordeaux 26 Apr 1903
James Van b. 1872 Married Emma Bellamy 21 Feb 1897
Sarah Amanda b. 28 Jan 1874 Married Nicholas Foy Nixon, Jr. from New Hanover Co, NC in 1889
d. 4 Aug 1948 in North Myrtle Beach, SC
The above family is the only McCalls shown in the Horry Co census from 1800-1880 with the exception of:
1800 Census Francis McCall M (over 45 yrs old)
Martin McCall M (between 26-45 yrs old)
1820 Census Mary McCall, widow (?)
I would appreciate ANY help on this. There are a ton of Thomas, Sarah, and John McCalls out there but I just can't make a connection!!!!! (P.S. This is my first submission---I hope it works!)
