Last year I picked up "A History of the McCall Family" at the York Co
library in Pa..
" The name Mccall comes from the name of a Scottish Clan. The McCalls, also
spelled McColl and MacColl, were a branch of the Clan Donald or MacDonald and
lived near the lake Fyne region in Scotland. One ancestor notes that on a
clear day washings could be seen on the line in Ireland across the Irish Sea.
The Clan had its own tartan, crest and badge.
Many of the clan migrated into North Ireland during the persecutions of
the sixteenth century. However, John Thomas Mccall the first member of our
family of whom we have knowledge came directly from Scotland, near the
Glasgow area, about 1755. He married on the Schuylkill river fifteen miles
from Philadelphia, Pa.. He married a Miss Jane or Jean Young about 1763. In
1787 he moved to Washington Co., Pa. near Cannonsburg and settled in the
valley of Chartiers Creek. He patented 280 acres of land from the government.
He died in 1810" He had Eight children- John II, Alexander, James, Elizabeth,
Thomas, Matthew, William, and AgnesThe rest of the history is about Thomas and
his wife, Sarah White, who had ten children-Thomas, Alexander,Jean, Elizabeth
John Marshall, Sarah, Margaret, William and Mary.
If anyone is interested in this Mccall Family I'll add the rest of four
pages I copied to website.
