I am searching for the parents of Hiram McClain, born about 1840, and resided
in Washington County, PA. He was married to Sarah Patterson, daughter of
James W. Patterson and Caroline (Van Kirk) Patterson. He owned a farm in
Franklin Township and was a partner for a period of time, beginning in 1891,
with Demas M. Frazee in a boot and shoe business in the borough of
Washington, PA. He was active in 1883 as a trustee in the Bethel Cumberland
Presbyterian Church at the village of Van Buren, PA.

Hiram and Sarah McClain had four children, whose names were:
Caroline (Carrie) born Jan 22, 1866 married to Albert J. Van Cleve of Greene
County, PA on May 10, 1899. Caroline died Jan 10, 1946 at the home of her
son Hiram H. Van Cleve in Wilkinsburg, PA.

Olive Mae & Melissa (Millie) one of these was married to Frank Post

H. Minor McClain married Mary Zelt and continued to live on the home farm and
was an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance. Minor graduated from
Washington, PA High School in 1905. Minor died in 1971 in Linesville, PA at
the home of his daughter, Jean (McClain) Houghton.

Over a period of years Hiram McClain bought farm land in Franklin Township,
Washington County, PA from the heirs of Simeon McClain (died 1871) namely his
six children. They were: John McClain, William N. McClain, W. Ross McClain,
Elizabeth (McClain) Bell, Sarah Ellen (McClain) Bell, and Mary Margaret
(McClain) Andrew.

I have been able to gather a large amount of detail about Hiram McClain, but
have hit a stone wall in searching for his parents. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
