I am researching my grandmother's family that lived in Washington County.
She was Caroline (Carrie) McClain, born January 22, 1866. She married Albert
J. Van Cleve of Greene County in 1899. She was the daughter of Hiram McClain
and Sarah Patterson. Her grand parents were John McClain and Leah (Van Kirk)
McClain and James W. Patterson and Caroline (Van Kirk) Patterson.

It is my understanding that the Patterson, Van Cleve and Van Kirk families
all came to Washington of Greene County from Monmouth County, New Jersey.
There is a possibility that the McClain family came directly to Washington
County at the time of their immigration from Ireland.

I would appreciate any information on any of the above lines. I will be
happy to share any information that I have.
