Hello all

Does anyone have credible sources that show that Donald, d. Abt. 1249, (son of Reginald & Fonia), who was the person who started the Donald Clan, was married to a "Daughter" Stewart, who was the daughter of Walter, High Steward of Scotland? Donald's one son was Angus Og.

My source is "Macdonalds of the Isles: a romance of the past and present", London:J Murray, 1914, 332 pgs., A. M. W. Stirling, HeritageQuest online.

The Pedigree sheet in the book (Pages 255-260) compiled by Lady MacDonald of the Isles: Reference texts, The Book of Clanranald (MS), printed in Reliquia Celtica, vol. ii; The Clan Donald, by the Rev,. A MacDonald of Killearnan and the Rev. A. MacDonald of Kiltarlity, 3 vols.; Gregory's History of the Western Highlands and Isles of Scotland; MS. History of the Macdonalds of Slate, by Donald Gregory; Browne's History of the Highlands, 4 vols.

I received a reply to the above question which is as follows: " I originally registered with Clan Donald USA in 2000, the US clan genealogist James A. McDonald sent correspondence that confirms we are not in the Stuart line of descent - this is apparently a widely propagated error that has spread further since we all started putting our research online to share."

So which is correct?

If you have any sources on either side of the argument you can contact me at .

Thanks

Mr. Francis M. Stuart
