I checked my resources and yes, your Susan Anne
Elizabeth McLain is the daughter of John McLean (d.
about 1846) and Rebecca Kelly (1797-d. before 1846).
Rebecca Kelly's parents were Bethemia/Bethana Pierce
and William Kelly (d. about 1824) of Chatham County,
Georgia, and settled in Early County by 1820. William
Kelly is listed in the Early County Census for 1820.

John McLean and Rebecca Kelly had the following
children:
Nancy, m. Peter Simmons, lived in Jackson County, Fla
Elizabeth, m. John McLendon, lived in Clay County, Ga
Cynthia, m. John Milton Minter, lived in Early County,
Ga
John McLean, died in 1864, 9th Georgia Infantry, CSA
Berrien McLean, died in 1864, 13th Georgia Infantry,
CSA
Rebecca McLean, never married

My grandmother, Ruth Minter Brooks said that there was
another son, William McLean who also died in the War
between the States, but I've never been able to find
him in the census or in the CS military rosters.

I am fairly certain that the lady you have listed as
Susan Anne Elizabeth McLain (1827-1884), spouse of
John McLendon, is the sister of my gg grandmother,
Cynthia McLean (1832-1930) who married John Milton
Minter of Early County, Ga. If this is true, their
parents were John McLean and Rebecca Kelly (both died
about 1845/6 in Early County).

Unfortunately I can't verify the connection until I
get home from work and look it up in my genealogy
papers. I tried to find Elizabeth and John McLendon
on the internet on one of the usgenweb.org census
sites for 1850 in either, Early or Decatur County,
Georgia, or Jackson County, Fla, but haven't been able
to find them at this time.

I do know that John and Elizabeth McLendon are living
in Ft. Gaines in the 1860 Georgia census and that
Elizabeth's younger brother, John McLean is living
with them. John McLean later joined the 9th Georgia
Infantry and died from his time spent as a POW up
north.

Don't know if you're interested in the McLean/Kelly
link, but I was very glad to find your email in the GA
Early listserv today.
