Jackie,
I have always been interested in this McWilliams' line since I was born and
grew about 3 miles from Scotch Ridge. In fact I have been to the Scotch Ridge
Presbyterian Cemetery but didn't find any McWilliams' graves. I actually met
Julia Child on a flight from Lake Tahoe to Santa Barbara many years ago.
My McWilliams' ancestors settled in Morristown about 15 miles west of Scotch
Ridge. I haven't been able to find any link between the two lines, although
some people have mixed them up in their family trees.

I believe the John McWilliams you mentioned would be shirttail relation to
me. If he's the one, he was born on Scotch Ridge Ohio in Belmont county in
1832 and died in Pasadena in 1924. I think he would be a half-brother to my
gggrandfather, Alexander. He is also Julia Child's grandfather, unless the
one you have doesn't fit this profile.
Thanks,
