Elizabeth,
The Blue People of the Desert reference does refer to the Indigo dye
they use on their fabrics which does transfer to the skin and builds up
after a while. The Blue People of Kentucky, however, are blue tinged in
their skin color because of a genetic 'defect' (if it doesn't harm them,
why is it a defect?). I have too many Celts in my background, too. The
Romans were freaked out by the woad covered Celts not necessarily
because they were unclothed in battle. The Romans were used to that.
However, there is mention in one historical writing (cannot remember who
wrote it. MUST find it again. It's too good and need the documentation.)
that the Romans freaked out because there was obvious physical evidence
that the Celts really got off on battle. That was a little bit rough for
the Romans to take.
Lindsey
