first off, sue and bobby didn't send that remark... i am sure, i will not be the
only one to comment on your posting. 2nd, i didn't see this as being racist at
all, i saw this person as asking about a typical saying, that yes, today and
yesterday would have been an insult, but i didn't see her as asking it to be
nosy.. she/he is one of us. mixed. having african-american,
native-american,european-american,asian-american conglomeration.. we are all
others.... all of us. my dad is black black black, and he taught me some things
that were absolutely wrong... black people have blue blood. black people sink
when they drown. the daniel boone was a man song that got me a hide beating in
my school, because i knew no better, black people don't tip, etc etc etc. my
dad. not my mom. my dad. and again, i repeat over and over and over again, he
was black. not light. he couldn't hide it, he couldn't tell anyone he was
indian, and sometimes when you take a picture of him he doesn't show up in
it.... his eyes do though. he is black. i say this over and over again, because
my black dad taught me some ignorant, wrong things. he taught me because that's
what he learned. he taught me because he believed them as truths, and he taught
me because some things he said, were not wrong when he taught them to me!! the
words colored,knee-grow,ni-gra,nig-ger have so much changed over the years.. my
aunt hester is 82 years old,and she can't stand the word "african-american," or
"black".. she thinks she's colored. but i tell you, i have come home from fights
because someone called me colored. (i don't call my aunt hester colored).
and i have black friends, who need for me to talk about it--i have to talk about
stuff w/my children, because they come home w/garbage almost every single day,
and want to know where people get these sayings, ideas, etc. like "coons." if i
and my children can't talk about this, how do we separate the garbage from the
gifts??????? if we cringe at the questions, the mere questions, how do we point
out what is wrong, what is racist, what is....

i have reacted too quickly before.. i have had my feelings hurt on this board,
thinking that people were denying their heritage, or trying to hurt others....
and i realized that's what i did. got too sensitive... i used to think there
were some people intentionally said and did things to hurt other people, and
they may have, or did.. but rest assured, the listmasters, thank you, took care
of those blatant incidences.. please, don't judge this statement.. don't judge
this person... this mixed board is important to all of us who need to get
through these brick walls...
