Tim,
I agree with you. I started to write an email when all the scrappin was
going on but I held back and didn't. One important thing for all of us to
remember. No matter what color you are, you are a human being, and human
beings make mistakes! One time a fellow asked me this question "Just what
are you?" He was black by the way. I looked at him and said "I am a human
being." The gentleman sitting with us, who also was black, got the biggest
kick out of that. The first man was trying to get me upset. Then I
proceeded to tell him what I thought I was. Unfortunately I didn't know
about the Melungeons at that time. I would have loved to educate him. You
know, we don't have to justify ourselves. I was made to feel so good by a
lady who was Indian. We got to talking and when I told her that I believed
my family had some Indian she immediately said "Oh you have got to come to
our next powwow." She made me feel as if I belonged. It didn't matter to
her if I was full blood or not. Sometimes I think I sound cheesy and guys
that is the last thing I want but I really wish that people could see that
one Creator made us all.
