> I have been reading all the things about POW WOW`s and Indian gatherings
with interest and i took my walk that i do every morning and i stopped at our
club house.I normally don`t do that, however i felt it was something i had to
do.I went straight to the library(just a room we all put old book, puzzles
etc) i went straight to the National Geographic box. There was about 50 in
the box and i looked at each cover to see what was in them.Would you believe
in a June 1994 issue has a beautiful article and pictures of Pow Wow`s a
gathering of the Tribes. .The article describes how the writer Micheal Parfit
and his camera man go on the Powwow trail.
He describes diffent dances such as the Fancy Dance, the Womens Traditional
Buckskin Dance and the Men`s Grass Dance.
The writer said at the close ot the Crow Fair his name was called over the
loud speaker to come to the Arena and was presented witha blanket ,a shawl
and a ten dollar bill.Someone asked "do you know what that means '?
He was told"he is asking you to be his friend".He asked "how do i
respond".The man looked at him for a moment ans said"be his friend".
He talks about the giving of tobacco and what it means.
Thanks to you guys I read the article twice.Like i said there are lots of
great pictures of the costumes and dance outfits and show`s a baby in a
cradle board
that is so cute.
If you can lay hands on this magizine read the article it answers lots of
questions.
Now on to the second N/G i also picked out to read about the Buffalo.
It is also a story of the Lakota in South Dakota. It is in a November 1994
issue.
As i walked back to my house i tought to myself, why did i go in there at 7
am for except to get these 2 stories. It was foggy and i had a feeling i was
led there by
something.Good birthday gift to myself.
Good night and god bless, Betty from Fla.
