My great-grandmother Lydia Artimisha Burgess Mullins was one of my favorite people ever. She passed away when I was 20. We spent many nights sitting in front of a coal grate fire talking. She told me so many stories about Logan Co., WVa events and passed on stories from her parents, grandparents, etc. She spoke of her mother saying that Logan Co. was so remote during the Civil War that they were afraid of both sides. She said they had hiding places staked out for the boys so the armies wouldn't take them. She spoke of the coalfield wars over unionization. She taught me about plants, animals, etc. I wish I'd had a tape recorder during those endless hours of conversation. I can hear her soft mountain drawl now. Rick
