Helen, just wanted to thank you for the listing of the mulattos in Grayson
Co, VA. That was very nice of you to take the time to transcribe and then
share with us. I'm fairly new to this site, so I thought I would kinda
introduce myself. My name is Susan. I was born and raised (reared) in
Grayson Co, Va. I live in Roanoke, Va. I have 2 wonderful children and 1
grandson, Shawn, who is the sunshine in my heart. Most of my roots are in
Grayson Co, Va and surrounding area. I am in the process of recording and
photographing all of the cemeteries in Grayson and have many done. If any of
you need info from there, please let me know.
I am searching for info on my gg-grandfather Stephen Leftridge Wright from
Grayson Co, Va. who I have been told for years was Melungeon, I have just not
found info as of yet to prove it. My grandmother (nee Wright) had classic
Native American looks, and when she died at the age of 86, she still had her
long dark brown/black hair. Very little grey. Two of her 4 children have
quite dark complections. She also had POLYCITHEMIA which I know is a disease
having to do with "Mediterranean gene" . I have been doing genealogy for
about 30 years now and I have found that these are probably some of the the
hardest people to find and prove info on. Anyone else with roots in
GraysonWythe/Carroll/Smyth Counties in VA? Take care, Susan
