Suze,
I was "called to task" for stating that one of my lines came to England from
Germany and then to the Colonies. However, I still think that is exactly
what happened! Lots of Palatines went to England during 1609/10. Later
they came to America. They intermarried with the English and some took on
English Surnames, but they were from other countries. I know many of my
ancestors were German --a fact I grew up not knowing --Like most
Appalachians, I was told I was English, Irish and Dutch! Black Irish and
Black Dutch, but still...
We just got the DNA test back from the Boling Family. My cousin had a 12/12
match with 6 people. None of those 6 relate to the other Boling Families in
Blount County at the time. So we are back to square one --trying to figure
out which branch of the Bolings we are. I have decided to continue with the
tried and true research techniques --paper trails and as much info as
possible on my ancestors. I am not going to worry about labels. I am
Melungeon because I feel it in my heart --because that is the group I
identify with and choose to self identify with --I may never prove it, but I
will always feel it in my heart. Sheila
