Hello ,

In reference to your comment:

è No, that the word Melungeon comes from the word
è melange, which does mean mixed, is a theory, but it
è does make sense, since we do know that Melungeon
è is not a race itself..So what else could it mean other
è than mixed race? Those who called the original people
è melungeon didn't know what their bloodlines were, and
è neither did the ones being called melungeon as far as I
è know...If the original ones were Portuguese, then that's
è what they were...If they were Portuguese and African,
è then they were mixed race...If they were Portuguese,
è Indian and African, they were mixed race.... What is
è your theory of what they were? I know nothing about
è Vardy Collins, but I know some about some Collins,
è and they are mixed race Indian/African and white...
è Have a safe trip...

Thats a good point.Melungeon was used as a derrogatory description of these
folks noone knew WHAT they were at this time so it makes sense using the
term Melungeon in that way would have been a way to explain these dark
skinned people and how they appeared.
