Do you think if you had used genealogy to the known Melungeons, and found
people to test to go back to these lines, would the study have turned out
the same as using people who self identified? That is my concern here. I
agree that this test would probably be close to the general population in
the surrounding area.

Exactly! My own thoughts and opinions, Penny. I do
indeed believe, by the way, that the older Appalachian
population will test similar to the Melungeons. Time
and admixture have almost guaranteed it.
