The letters were actually printed in 1890 in response to Dromgoole's
"American" articles. The Wilson County "Malungeon Town" referred to was
from "forty years ago," or circa 1850 - not much later than 1848.



I don't think anyone is disregarding newspaper articles - for Melungeon
researchers, that's the bulk of what's available to us.
