Yes, I know that some were tall, my Minors were one and I know some of
the Goins were in my imediate family. My mother used to go back home
to WV and TN as a child and remembers the woman in the family a good 6
feet. She herself is 5'10" which being born in the 40s was tall for a
woman. My brothers are both 6'5". I would assume Helen that you are
right that it was a NA element. The Minors carried a strong NA
element, my grgrgrandfather Guilford Minor when he married his first
wife Polly Goins they were both listed as colored on the marriage
license. I am assuming it is because they were considered NA by the
license office. I do not think it is a Melungeon thing as much as a NA
thing. My maternal line is definetly Melungeon as I share the same
line as Jack.

a large "race" of people buried inside, along with their worldly
belongings.

Another odd fact about WV, no Indian tribe claimed the area but did
use it to gather food.
