Dennis,
Have you ever done any research about Melungeons on your own? I got a
feeling you have read a couple books written by some folks that know about
as much about Melungeons as I do about brain surgery. I suggest you start
with some documents like census, land records, tax records, church records
etc and draw your own conclusions about Melungeons.
I think you have taken a personal attack on Frank who can document his
Melungeon connection through Vardy Collins, one of the better known
Melungeons.
You have also questioned my knowledge of Melungeons. While my
connections may not be as famous as Vardy Collins, I think you will be able
to satisfy yourself that Charles Gibson (my G-G-grandfather) and Martin
Collins (another G-G-Grandfather) were in fact Melungeons
I would hope you would take a similar attitude or position about those
who post totally false information as fact without the first reference as to
their conclusion.
You might even start with those who say, "I have never met a Collins
who wasn't Melungeon." That particular statement has at least one person
convienced they are Melungeon when in fact there is no documentation that
supports this conclusion.
Another point I would be interested in you addressing is the business of
Melungeon diseases which Dr. Kennedy now says does not exist. A web site is
posted regularly on this list that states just that, "Melungeon inherited
diseases. As a result of such garbage, you have some other folks that use
this as documentation for their Melungeon connection.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, some of us can prove our Melungeon
connection and do not wish to deprive anyone of the right to the same but
do feel there must be some documentation to support their claim and that
don't mean "just because someone said so".
Cleland
