Actually Curtis, it was the 'What FURS?' See how easy it is for spellings to
change and therefore the meanings get lost? Moses, leading those Melungeons
up to Newman's Ridge, did so because he had been told that there was a lot of
good hunting up there. And the Melungeons needed not only the meat but the
furs. Upon reaching the summit however, he found the mount devoid of any other
life form and so could not find the furs he longed for to cover up with in the
winter time.

Later, others, following Moses came asking about those furs and Moses
answered "What furs?" And thereby lies the truth of the tail.
